FAQs
Jewelry from a pawn shop is just broken marriages and lost dreams, right?
Nope. Approximately 80% of the items that we have in store are things that have been sold to us over time. A lot of ladies like to trade up their wedding sets to a bigger size at various stepping stones within the marriage. We figure, when a couple is starting out in the marriage, no one really has a large bank account to draw from so you buy what you can afford at the time. As both partners work and save, life changes and that ring that got you going doesn't always fit the bill 10 or 20 years down the road. That's where we come in. You can come in and trade that ring into something new and we can resell the ring to get another couple started. Think of our store as a jewelry recycling center!
How does a pawn work?
A pawn is a short term collateralized loan. The customer provides collateral and based on that, a monetary figure is attained. Based on the monetary loan, a service fee is charged. A pawn is a 30 day loan with a 30 day grace period*. At the end of those first 30 days of the loan, the service fee will be assessed; at the end of the 60 days, the customer will lose their merchandise if at least one service charge is not paid by the end of the 60 days. We mostly do jewelry pawns (also known as jewelry loans).
*A minimum of the original service charge must be paid within the following 30 days or the grace period or an additional service charge is added to the total.
When you size jewelry, do you stretch the piece?
NO! Unlike most jewelry repair places, we do not destroy the integrity of a piece to make it fit. When jewelry is repaired, sized, etc. at Community Jewelry & Pawn, we use a laser welder, rather than a torch welder, to open the piece and then add gold in for sizing.
Can my titanium eyeglasses be welded?
With our LaserStar BrightStar welder, we are able to to fix almost any metal framed eyeglasses. The beam of light emitted is not nearly as harsh as a traditional welding torch which makes it possible for us to complete odd jobs, like the titanium and even stainless steel eyeglasses.
What types of merchandise do you take in on pawn?
Mostly, we take gold for pawns. Occasional, we will take in specialty items such as branded sterling jewelry, some watches, and the rare miscellaneous item. We do take trade-ins for purchases on site and encourage those individuals looking for a cash advance to PAWN with us instead of selling.
Do you take silver?
Simple answer: No. However, we do take some silver flatware (and miscellany) and will take Tiffany's pieces.
Do you take watches?
Large brand names only. Currently on display we have over 100 watches of all makes, models, and fashion types. We are interested in high-end watches rather than fashion watches.
Do your diamonds come with certifications?
Many of our diamonds do NOT come with certificates; however, our on-site jeweler can guarantee that the color and clarity of any stone we sell or quote on will be within one grade of GIA (Gemological Institute of America) standards when taken to a GIA diamond appraiser or your money back within 30 days of purchase.
What do you repair?
Gold, silver, steel, platinum, and titanium jewelry. We repair metal eye glasses as well as some clocks and many brands of watches. We will attempt to repair any jewelry you desire and if the item you need repaired can fit in our laser we will give it our best shot! Our jeweler is on site Mon - Friday during normal business hours. Typical repairs take between 3-5 days and custom pieces are by the piece. We replace watch batteries while you wait.
What do you NOT take?
The short list of this is: clothing or accessories of any kind, laptops/computers and most tablets, game systems, game accessories, games, CDs, DVD/BluRays, tools of any kind, collectibles/memorabilia, weapons of any kind, musical instruments, most watches, car accessories, motorcycle accessories, digital cameras/recorders, sports equipment, exercise equipment.
